CASE STUDY
Plumpton College, Sussex
What we did
To provide essential additional accommodation for Plumpton College's environmental diplomas at their Ivyland farm site - the living classroom was designed to embody the sustainability principles taught there. The building boasts rammed earth walls, with external insulation of sheep's wool behind locally grown timber cladding and a living roof insulated with sheep's wool and cork. High performance timber double glazed windows and sheep's wool insulated floor complete the envelope. The heating and hot water needs to the building are provided by a wood-fired boiler and solar panels. Waste water is passed through a reed bed drainage system.
