The Brief

The Cottage was originally built circa 1920. The site, which extends to some 18 acres, is in an AONB & SSSI. The building is predominantly a Green Oak structure shown mainly as a primary frame with externals made up of chalk flint which was dug up and knapped on site. Feature brickwork was laid in an old English garden bond style with a double plinth. Window and door reveals all have stone cills with canted and chamfered brickwork. Other sections of the walls are finished in oak cladding and tile hanging, the latter finished in hand made clay multi-coloured tiles. Windows and doors are all made with fine grade fumed oak.

The house is super insulated with high grade PIR boarding to both the walls and the floors. Glazing is 28mm toughened, argon gas filled, soft coated, with sun protection to the southerly elevations. Rooflights that open have automatic rain and heat control equipment. Heating is via ground source heat pumps to the underfloor heating system.
