On Wednesday 21 June, Jamie Wasley, a Project Manager from our Nottingham team, attended the Guild of Bricklayers National Brickwork Final 2017 hosted by Derby College.
Founded in 1932, the Guild aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork. Each year it organizes regional brickwork competitions which attract over 150 competitors. These regional competitions form part of the National Building Craft competition scene, leading to this national final competition.
He was invited to attend in recognition of his success in the construction industry since studying at the college as a bricklaying apprentice. He’s no stranger to the world of competitive bricklaying, having represented his region at the national Skill Build competition during this time.
Jamie joined jhai as a trainee just over two years ago, keen for a new challenge in the construction industry after working as a builder for many years.
Now one of jhai’s brightest stars, he has since joined the college’s Positive Role Model scheme to inspire the next generation of students and promote apprenticeships and the link to careers in professional construction. As a positive role model Jamie will have the opportunity to come in and speak to current students, either in brick or professional construction, to give a talk/activity to inspire them and showcase what he has gone on to achieve.
At the event he was also approached by the president of the Guild of Bricklayers who was very impressed with jhai’s commitment to recruitment and promotion of the industry, and is keen to develop our involvement with colleges around the country. Watch this space…
