Independent review of Building Regulations

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has announced that there will be an independent review of the regulatory system in relation to fire safety in buildings together with wider Building Regulation compliance and enforcement, examining international experience of regulation.

It follows the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower, which raised serious questions about the fire safety of high rise residential buildings, and subsequent government testing of aluminium composite material (ACM) cladding from similar buildings across the country.

This will be the first real government review of our profession since the Building Act was conceived in the early 1980s and as one of the UK's leading Approved Inspectors, we feel a responsibility to participate in this review.
